Joe and I were watching the NBA playoffs Friday night (actually I was watching and Joe was sleeping) when we heard an explosion. It took me a minute to realize that it wasn't storming and it wasn't thunder. Upon leaving the house we saw multiple people running to a car that had "exploded" in front of a house 3 doors down from ours. Turns out 3 teenage girls were "huffing" in the parked car with the windows rolled up when one of them decided to light a cigarette. The girls had burns and lacerations on their face and arms, and a lot of explaining to do to the law officials, their parents, and friends I'm sure. I hope they learned that "huffing" is dangerous and that this experience may have saved their lives, albeit a hard lesson for them to learn this way.
You can read about it here
It is hard to know whether to feel sorry for them (which I do as everyone makes bad choices) or to be amazed at the stupidity of lighting a cigarette in a car full of flammable fumes...Darwin awards anyone???
