Ever since being sick with a bad throat infection about 5 weeks ago, I have been tired a lot. Like asleep by 9p and waking up at 6:30a. I thought it might have been my thyroid levels being off again, but those results came back good. So I got some more blood work done. Guess what I have? Something I've been through before... mononucleosis.
I've had it for about 5 weeks now and my spleen is still enlarged (due to not resting nearly as much as I should be). Rest and Vitamin C for me. Hopefully I can have a somewhat laid back and easy weekend. Because Monday I leave for Pennsylvania for an interview...

Why me?
As I'm sitting here writing this blog post, Joe is trying to get the kids to bed. Jase is screaming for his juice (he is overly tired from the trip and having a cold or allergies, I'm not really sure). I'm sick with a horrible head cold and upper respiratory virus. So now where to start...
I've been wanting to blog for the last couple weeks, but it just seems like one thing after another keeps happening. For instance 2 weekends ago we were cleaning the church building and Meghan found a bottle of hand sanitizer on the bottom shelf of the pulpit and had it in it her mouth, on her shirt, and on her face. Off to the ER we went since we had no idea how much she had ingested. After 3 sticks to draw her blood, the blood alcohol test came back close to 0, so she ate very little, but she definitely had it in her mouth by the way she was pulling at her tongue...
Jase started out with what I thought was allergies a couple weeks ago (itchy nose and eyes, sneezing, nasal drainage), but allergy meds aren't helping at all now, so I think it may have changed to a head cold.
Then last Thursday my throat got a little sore. We headed up to Chicago Friday afternoon to meet Joe's sister and her family at a hotel and to swap babysitting while each couple went to the temple (pool pics in another post). I felt progressively worse after a night of sleep in the hotel room's king bed (all four of us in it after Jase fell off the pull out at 11:30p, and nonstop tossing and turning by the kids, along with the accompanied knees and elbows in the side and back).
Now I feel like I'm hacking up a lung every 10-15 minutes, can't breathe through my nose, and wish I didn't have to do anything (but alas today was Father's day, so I wanted to make Joe feel special and have some good food for us adults, since the kids just want mac 'n cheese and hotdogs anyway).
The kids have fought nonstop today - they just can't play together AT.ALL today, so it has been one VERY.LONG.DAY.
And Joe isn't feeling greatest either, as of Saturday night.
Oh, and did I mention that Meghan picked up ringworm from the hotel pool area.

Yeah, my life is sooo not cool right now - anybody want to switch?

Back when Jase was really sick
Remember about weeks ago when Jase was really sick and spent a day and a half in the hospital being rehydrated with IV fluids? Well these pictures were taken about 4 hours after the vomiting and diarrhea started. He felt and looked bad, but trust me he looked alot worse before he started looking better. Thankfully I didn't take any other pictures of the ordeal...

A horrible week
I have to admit that this has most likely been the worst week I've had as a parent, which probably isn't too bad considering I've been a mom for almost 4 years. Last weekend was great, being Easter and all. Then Monday morning around 5a Jase vomited. Then he vomited again around 6:30a and continued in this pattern vomiting 11 times total from Monday at 5a to Tuesday at 4a. As if that wasn't bad enough, then the diarrhea started mid Monday morning and lasted through Wednesday morning. Monday was busy trying to disinfect everything, but Jase is old enough to embrace the "barf bucket", so the cleanup was a lot easier than it could have been. Can I just mention here again how much I love wood floors! I really don't want carpet after this week. Tuesday morning Jase was very lethargic, didn't want to drink or eat (not that I blame him), but he wouldn't walk or sit up either, so in to the Dr's we went. He was dehydrated, which I knew, and off to the Clarian Arnett Hospital we went. Jase was a real trooper, even when they had to poke him 2 times to get the IV started. I stayed with him Tuesday night and by Wednesday morning he was doing better, but still not drinking much. By Wednesday midday he had went 24 hours without vomiting and a few hours without diarrhea. We (myself, the Dr, and nurse) decided that Jase could probably recover the rest of the way at home better than in a bed (he was restless at this point). So we came home and we all slept great (everyone was asleep by 8p - parents included).
Thursday Jase was weak and he gradually started eating and drinking more. Mentally he was himself (but very moody), but physically he was so weak and could barely walk or sit up (because he hadn't eaten in 4+ days. Over this whole time he lost 3-4 pounds. By Thursday evening he was stronger.
Friday morning we woke up to Meghan having vomited in her bed at some point during the night (she is a silent vomitor (is that a word?) and gives no prelude to it coming). I also woke up that morning feeling quite nauseated. I've had some symptoms for about a week, but nothing too serious thankfully. Meghan had one more instance early this morning and now just has the diarrhea. Thankfully she wants to drink everything and eat everything, so it looks as though she won't be as sick as Jase was (thank you rotavirus vaccine).
So be forewarned that you don't want to stop in at our house for a visit now, unless you want to get sick... (plus the house is a disaster). Let's hope we can all be better by Monday...

Poor, sick Meghan
Meghan is really sick right now. She has early pneumonia (I guess because her lung is just starting to sound yucky and her fever is only 100F). Anyways, I hope she pulls out of it fast. It is certainly no fun looking at your little sweetie pie and seeing her hurt and feel yucky.
Plus no one gets much sleep as she coughs the whole night (even with being held upright).
And I hope I don't get sick, as she always turns in to my face when she coughs at night...

Sick
I realize that it has been a couple weeks since a new post, but we were busy and now I'm sick.
Not just not feeling well, but really, don't get out of bed the whole day sick. This is my 3rd day home from work and I'm feeling only slightly better (which is code for I got out of bed and am in the living room in the recliner).
This shall pass (hopefully soon) and then I'll be back to blogging...
