Meghan at 9 months

Meghan had her 9 month Dr visit this morning. She is growing well and excelling at everything. The Dr was especially glad to hear that Meghan was "attacking" Jase when he takes toys away from her. Meghan gets very upset when Jase takes her dolls or stuffed animals away; she has previously scratched his face and tried biting him.

At 9 months Meghan weighs 18lbs 14oz, and is 27 1/2 inches tall.

Here are some fun pics I took this afternoon when Jase was out watching Wall-E with his daddy and uncle Daniel.

Bunny

When I went outside one morning this last week to get the newspaper, I saw this cute little bunny sitting in the grass, eating all our clover :)

Jase loved seeing it and wanted to "catch it with his plastic fork and eat it". Crazy kid...

Wedding trip, part 2

The long night on not sleeping the greatest was not due to uncomfortable hotel beds or anything of the such. In fact the beds and pillows were the nicest we've had at any hotel we can remember. Jase tossed and turned and Meghan wanted to nurse at will pretty much the whole night.

When we got up in the morning we had the complimentary hot breakfast at the hotel and then Meghan decided to take a nap, but only if I laid down with her. So, Jase and Joseph went to a park with all the cousins, while Meghan and I slept some more.

Then we got prepped for the wedding before our late check-out and headed to the nearby BK to let the kids play some more. Joseph decided he wanted his hair cut, so we found a place at the mall and I got Jase a couple pairs of sunglasses on clearance at The Children's Place and a really nice dress shirt at Gymboree for 65% off. When we left the mall we only had about a 5 minute drive to the chrurch, but both Meghan and Jase crashed once they were in the car. Joseph had to get ready for some pictures before the actual wedding, so I stayed in the car and let the sleeping children sleep. We ended up having to wake up the kids to get them dressed for the wedding, so we knew it would be an interesting experience.

Meghan did well during the ceremony, but Jase wouldn't be quiet, so Joseph took him out and he played. The wedding ceremony was very nice and Meghan was quite attentive to the movements and people walking around. After the ceremony the rest of the wedding picture were taken and we were able to start on appetizers at the reception. The hard part for the kids with not much of a nap was waiting 1.5 hrs after the wedding ended for the full reception and dinner to start. After we ate, we called it night and decided to head back home. We got changed into comfortable car clothes and then went and had some cake.

On the way home there was a storm that we drove through and we saw an amazing rainbow for probably about 15 minutes. At one point the rainbow became really bright and you could see the whole rainbow, from end to end. There was even a double rainbow for a short time. After driving through most of the storm, it looked like we were going to drive into the "pot of gold". The best rainbow I'd seen in quite a few years, and the first rainbow that Jase will remember seeing.

Then as we were driving into Lafayette we saw fireworks. I had forgotten that the Taste of TIppecanoe was that night and it was neat to see some fireworks pop out over the tops of the trees.

Oh, and as tired as Jase was, he didn't sleep until we were 20 minutes from home...

Wedding trip, part 1

Friday was the start of our short visit to South Bend for Joseph's sister's wedding. To start the day out I had a Dr's appt and then when I turned on our street I noticed that our 2nd car was gone. I thought maybe Joseph needed to get something for our trip, and then when I pulled up and parked I noticed a note on the door that read "Love, We are at Urgent Care/ER. Jase hurt his lip (again), but it's not too bad. I have the cell and will call soon."

So, I called the cell and the Dr was just getting to them. I needed to get packing our things for the wedding and hotel stay, and finish laundry...

It ended up that Jase needed 5 stitches just below his bottom lip (we still don't know what happened, as he was playing in his room by himself and then started screaming, although it looks like his top teeth are what poked into his bottom lip).

Then we finally got on the road and both kids slept. We got to the hotel room and got everything unpacked and then headed to the church for the rehearsal and dinner (which was a luau theme). Jase loves his cousins, and had a terrific time. Meghan loves getting tons of attention too.

After the wedding festivities, we headed back to the hotel for some swimming! Jase has been looking forward to this for weeks (and now we really need to get him into some lessons).

This was Meghan's first time in a pool and she loved it. As soon as her legs touched the water she started kicking and laughing - and she loved being in her pool float (which Jase also liked to hijack).

Meghan got tired and decided that sitting and watching Jase and daddy was more fun.

We were exhausted and hoped that we would all sleep well, but when I told Jase it was time for bed, he said "No, I want MY bed" - and the sleepless night begins...

New Calling

So, last Wednesday we got a call that the Bishop of our Ward wanted to meet with both of us for 5 minutes Sunday morning before Sacrament meeting. I immediately thought that we both or one of us would be getting a new calling.

Well, I was right - I am now the Relief Society secretary! And I am excited because I love the sisters in the ward and I love the Relief Society President too. I think this will be a busy and I'm sure exhausting calling, but I know that I can grow so much in serving the sisters in our ward.

Prayers would be appreciated as I'm still part of the Activities Committee too, so my plate is pretty darn full right now...

Fun at the zoo

The kids got to go on a play date to the local zoo and also ride the train. Here are some pics that a friend took (thanks Margot!). You can see more cute pics here.

I just love the ones of the siblings in front of the train - so cute!

Strawberries = yummy

About 2 weeks ago Joseph took the kids strawberry picking at Pretty Prairie Farms. When I got home from work I was happy to see 20 pounds of wonderful smelling berries. So I spent the whole evening cleaning berries (with the wonderful help of Mr Jase) and prepping them for jam, pies, eating on top of cereal, and eating with sour cream and brown sugar (it is yummy, so don't knock it until you try it - I also thought it sounded strange until I actually I tried it, now I love it).

Here are the berries before cleaning (note that there was a third tray full of berries not in the picture)

Here is Jase helping to cut the tops off

A close up of Jase's berries

Here are the berries all cleaned and some packaged for pies (after eating lots too)

Swim suit as a hat?

Lately, Jase has developed an obsession with Meghan's clothes (see here). So I guess this really shouldn't have surprised me...

Happy Father's Day

Happy Father's Day Joseph!

We hope you had a great day - we loved spending the day with you and making some yummy food for you too. We are grateful for all that you do for us and for your love and support in everything we go through as a family and individuals.

On the upside I (Heather) decided to make a Strawberry Rhubarb pie to celebrate Father's Day (Joseph loves pies, so I thought why not). I hate making pies, more accurately, I hate making pie crusts and usually just buy the box of rolled up pie crust. But one of the things I wanted to conquer in life was to make a great pie crust (and have it look great too). I've seen pie crusts made in food processors, so I opted for that method (mixing up the dough and getting the right amount of water never worked for me). I used this recipe from Paula Dean and it made an incredibly flaky and yummy crust. Now I'll be a pie making fool! This time I made the mistake of thawing the rhubarb and the pie ended up being more of a pie soup (which Jase thought was hilarious), but hey, the crust came out darn near perfect and that was what I was trying for. Plus, the "soup" makes great syrup for the ice cream!

A full day of fun

We had a busy day today, starting this morning with a trip to Columbian Park to see the ducks and geese, ride the train, and visit the zoo. Jase is learning to throw the frisbee, and he made a new friend that he sat with during the train ride.

Then we had a meeting at church and the kids did well playing. Here is Meghan being her cute self.

Here is Meghan holding up the laundry basket...

Then after some naps and dinner, we all headed to the golf course to go to the driving range.

Meghan loved the feel of the grass and the empty buckets were great fun (more than her toys on her stroller).

Jase has his own clubs now, so it is officially a family affair.

The perfect place to watch TV

Memorial Day Weekend

For Memorial Day weekend we decided to go up and visit Joseph's older sister and her family in Michigan. We were able to meet Joe's sister's fiance and Joe was able to go golfing. We were also able to go and see the new Indiana Jones movie (the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull) and we were all pretty disappointed with it. No where near as good as the first and third movies.

Jase loves playing with his 4 cousins, especially Caleb, the only boy (until later this summer when the 5th baby comes, which is a boy). the three girls love Meghan and Meghan is a trooper for all the being held, played with, and passed around that gets done with little babies! Here are some of the fun times we got on camera...

Jase and the riding lawn mower (this is how he acts with all powered items, ride on it, run away, run around it, jump in front of it (well not the lawn mower) now you why we are glad we have hardwood floors and only have an area rug to use the vacuum sweeper on)

All the cousins loved Meghan and loved making her smile and laugh. Jase loved playing with all the Star Wars toys with Caleb

We were able to meet Joe's youngest sister and her 2 kids and Joe's mom at Binder park zoo for a few hours. The African "safari" was really neat to see. Feeding the giraffes is always a a huge hit with Jase.

We had a great time and look forward to the upcoming wedding and seeing our family again - this time to include swimming and another zoo!

A girl?

My Gramma sent some clothes for Meghan and she included some bigger clothes for the next couple summers. Jase was adamant that there was something in the box for him. Then he found a couple dresses that were "bigger" and he really, really wanted to put the one on, so I let him. With his shaggy hair, he could almost pass for a girl...

Good thing I cut his hair short last night :)

Bike riding is fun!

Last year I wasn't able to bike much and Jase missed the fun rides around the neighborhood and to the park. Well now, Meghan is enjoying it too, except for when Jase pulls her thumb out of her mouth and wakes her up...

I remember the spring that Jase turned 1 year old, he always fell asleep when I would take him for a ride (and they look so precious and uncomfortable in that trailer).

Meghan likes to eat...

everything, including veggies (I'll enjoy this while it lasts)!

Here she is happily eating spaghetti and garlic toast (this is the first time we let her feed herself spaghetti); she couldn't be happier...

Here she is trying to "eat" or at least chew on my nose - let me tell you those baby teeth are sharp...

Friday night explosion...

Joe and I were watching the NBA playoffs Friday night (actually I was watching and Joe was sleeping) when we heard an explosion. It took me a minute to realize that it wasn't storming and it wasn't thunder. Upon leaving the house we saw multiple people running to a car that had "exploded" in front of a house 3 doors down from ours. Turns out 3 teenage girls were "huffing" in the parked car with the windows rolled up when one of them decided to light a cigarette. The girls had burns and lacerations on their face and arms, and a lot of explaining to do to the law officials, their parents, and friends I'm sure. I hope they learned that "huffing" is dangerous and that this experience may have saved their lives, albeit a hard lesson for them to learn this way.

You can read about it here

It is hard to know whether to feel sorry for them (which I do as everyone makes bad choices) or to be amazed at the stupidity of lighting a cigarette in a car full of flammable fumes...Darwin awards anyone???
